K-mart is running banner ads that indicate the console will be cheaper than its base model’s current $399 price point. The site is currently hosting a banner ad that trumpets that “THE RUMORS ARE REALITY” and that there is a “new low price & a new and exciting PlayStation 3.”

Meanwhile, game blog Kotaku was sent scans of in-store posters for retailer FYE that trumpet the “new low price” of both existing PS3 models-$299 for the 80GB stand-alone and $399 for the 160GB Uncharted bundle.

Sony HK is having a launch party in Causeway Bay, which is one of Hong Kong’s major shopping areas. The event is on August 31 and starts at 6pm and will run past midnight on September 1, when the console finally goes on sale.

A listing on GameStop’s website indicates that the new 120 GB PlayStation slim will ship on August 25, a full week earlier than the September 1 date that Sony had suggested earlier this week while discussing the system’s U.S. launch.

Gaming blog Kotaku contacted Sony this morning to learn whether GameStop was in error or if the Slim is shipping early. “Sept 1st isn’t an official street date,” Sony spokesperson Patrick Seybold explained over e-mail. “We expect most retailers to have 120GB PS3s by then.”

Earlier this week, PlayStation chief Kaz Hirai indicated that the Slim would be available in some regions before september 1st, but a subsequent Sony-Kotaku interview had suggested that Sept. 1 was the U.S. date.

The PS3 has been available for less then three years and were about to see the sixth PS3 and their is a rumor of a 250gig PS3 that is going to be released. Sony seem to be on a role.

And of course, the new PS3 packs all of the great features from the old PS3 while consuming 34 percent less power and taking up 32 percent less space then its predecessor. What is great about the system is that it can play Blu-ray Disc movies, High Definition games, music, video and photo storage and has free access to PlayStation®Network for online gaming and more.
